Moving In

June 30, 2008

If you ever get the chance to move to Phoenix Arizona in the middle of the summer…DON’T!!! No I’m just kidding, the valley is a nice place to live if you can cope with the heat, but I just got done moving my girlfriend into her new apartment in Ahwatukee. It’s awesome for her because it shortens her commute from an hour to 15 minutes. It was a long weekend full of heat though. Everything from endless driving to box carrying and even some Ikea furniture setup was included. Oh, not to mention the two hour break for my God-daughter’s birthday. That was fun, but the one-year old had a better birthday party at Chuck-E-Cheese than I ever did as a kid growing up.

Regardless, it’s great to see my girl so happy, even if I have to sweat off 10 pounds.

Cambria Suites

June 27, 2008

Possibly my favorite hotel to work with is the Cambria Suites hotel. The Cambria Suites hotel is a new brand from Choice Hotels International. It was designed for business travelers with amenities such as all-suite hotel rooms, free high-speed internet, LCD flat panel screens, and large meeting areas just to name a few. Although catering to the person traveling for business reasons, The Cambria Suites hotel has something everyone can enjoy including a resort-style swimming pool and a fitness center. I can’t wait to stay at one myself. With a handful in the states already, there a few more hotels set to open up within the upcoming months. The first Cambria Suites opened up in April of 2007 and there are about 75 more contracts which have been signed to begin construction shortly if it hasn’t already for that particular city. The locations of the properties are strategically placed near local attractions such as airports or convention center buildings. If there isn’t one by you yet, keep an eye out for a Cambria Suites location near you, I know I will.

Choice Hotels International…again!

June 27, 2008

Did I mention that I love this place? Choice Hotels has been a blast. During my first couple of weeks I was trying to get my feet wet in the lodging industry and I was just begging for work, now, the work won’t stop coming. It’s good stuff though. It is definitely some work that needs to be done and I love being a part of such a huge website and an awesome company. I am yet to have a day when I dread waking up in the morning, well, maybe that’s a lie. I wake up a little earlier than I want to sometimes but regardless, coming to the office is never a chore.

Dog Park, Here We Come!

June 23, 2008

Nike and Biscuitt just got their final booster shots and with the rabies already in the bag, they’re going to be introduced to the dog park.  I am pretty excited to get them out so they can get some good exercise that no human could ever give to a dog. I think they may be pretty shy at first and I will watch them like a hawk to make sure no other dogs try to get bad. I’m not exactly sure when I will have a chance to take them with work, my business, Kung Fu class, and helping my girlfriend move at the end of the week, but I hope to take them soon. It’s hard to think about anything else.

Tiger’s Got It

June 17, 2008

Sorry for the long delay.  I’ve been busy with the Father’s Day weekend just passing.  I took a trip to Vegas and hung out there with the fam.  I also took the pups and the five hour drive turned into a six-and-a-half hours but it was worth it.  I enjoyed playing with the puppies in Sin City.  My sister has a house in Summerlin about nine miles west of the strip so that’s where we spent about 90 percent of the time.  It was a great weekend!

How about Tiger Woods though.  My brother is a golf fan and he had me hooked on the U.S. Open this weekend.  That guy is amazing.  He finished his round with a birdie yesterday to force a playoff and after another tie today, Tiger came out on top in the first round of sudden death.  Not too bad after being out for knee surgery.

Great Weekend in Page, AZ

June 10, 2008

I just had a great weekend back at home in Page, Arizona. I got to see my parents and help them at the restaurant. My buddy and I drove up on Friday night and made a pit-stop in Flagstaff for dinner with some buddies. As soon as we got into page at eleven at night we were put to work in the kitchen until one-thirty a.m. The work didn’t stop but it was good. Well, I take that back, we had a short break to go to horseshoe bend. We had a good weekend of honest labor and it’s good to have that once in awhile.

Site Re-vamp

June 5, 2008

I have recently re-launched my site DouglasKwong.com to go for a new look and feel. It’s not finished, but it’s definitely an improvement in terms of looks. Watch out for a links page coming out soon!

My sister’s getting hitched

June 1, 2008

I just got word today that my sister is tying the knot. In true Chinese fashion, the date is set for August 8, 2008 or 8-8-08.  Let’s hope for ton’s of longevity and prosperity to come her way. I think she’ll be happy. Her partner is a very cool guy and I definitely approve. I know the wedding will be in Vegas, but on the classier side. I’ll post more details as they become available.
